Sunny days

The sun came out in a big way yesterday. It was almost 80 degrees! I enjoyed the sunny somewhat warm days that lead up to this beautiful Friday with wonderful almost daily bike rides. This day I had an unpleasant task I had to take care of but got to take the trolley downtown and walk in the loveliness. Things should work out but it will take some time and thought I don't want to give and didn't choose. Sorry that's vague but I cant share this until its a done deal. I will tell you it's not job related.

Things are going well in the world of podcasting. Ken seems to be enjoying the editing though he grumbles about it. We just go about our business and talk about stuff. The only planning we do is the getting together part. It has been a fun experience and I'm glad it has been well received. If you haven't checked the show out do it now! We have four episodes out and Ken is working on (editing) the most recent one. We should have done the people watching stroll yesterday. People were enjoying the warm sunshine on a Friday afternoon by dressing scantily, getting sunburned and trashed. Nick and I were out doing a few errands so we witnessed the party like atmosphere in the 'hood.

I enjoy Nick's silly nature when I'm bathing him. Yes, I get to bathe my 15 year old son. (He wears shorts) He broke his arm this time not his wrist but still the same arm. Anyway, he shouts such phrases as "It burns!" as I'm getting his hair wet to shampoo it up. It is just silly.

Haven't had much time for the knitty but here and there I'm working on the pink cardigan. It's a pretty color and feels so nice to work with. It's Cotton Fleece from The Brown Sheep Company. "All-season luxury cotton yarn". It's 80% cotton and 20% Merino Wool and the color is Tea Rose. Melissa carries this line but not this color. I really wanted pink and saw none I wanted so she showed me the color book and let me special order my pink! I still need to go back to the button store and choose what I want. Last time I was overwhelmed and left feeling like I am never gonna understand how I'm gonna find the right buttons! So many to choose from and the couple that own the store did not understand why I was there looking for buttons before I even had my yarn or started my project. Geez, I just wanted to get an idea. It's My World dammit! ;)

Hoping and wishing

Today as I was going about my business a list started forming in my head. At first it was amusing but as the day wore on it became important. I need a plan, goals and something to look forward to. I figure the only way to stop it in my head is to type it out. They are in no order of importance just as they came to the front of my brain.
Things I hope and wish for
1. My ex hubby doesn't do something he will regret.
2. I end the temporary state in my life by
a. getting a job
b. making peace with my past
3. That I don't let Ken down after all his hard work etc.
4. That I'm doing right by my kids.
5. That as the temporary goes we are able to purchase some of the things we have needed or wanted.
a. a desk for Nick (for their room)
b. an MP3 for Wil (busted)
c. an iPod for mom (my CD player is going wonky) so I can hear podcasts. I don't have much time at the computer and I would rather be moving.
d. clothes for the growing guys
e. getting my girly on!
6. find a balance between work, play, family and home time.

I'm sure this will get added to as time goes by. It just makes it real and attainable if it's laid out.

How goes it?

Happy Sunday all! The sun is shining and I'm thinking I will go out on my bike again today! I was out yesterday and got wind burned but really enjoyed being out in the sun and I got a good work out. I wore the iRiver and had a running commentary while biking. Nothing of much excitement happened on my ride so I cant imagine P.Ken will use it. I have had encounters on rides that have left me with lots to say. I would love to share what I'm seeing as I'm out and about. People watching for the ear. It was a good test of how well the iRiver records in the elements. I'll have to take a listen. I will try some weekend morning in the future.

Tonight is the Farm Team show at Comedy Sportz. I haven't been in a show for so long I cant even remember when. My guess is I haven't for many many months. I'm looking forward to playing tonight!

Had a great job interview Friday for a shoe store in my neighborhood. She had a few more folks to speak with but would make a decision by end of next week. Keep your fingers crossed. Just as I predicted the grant cant be given for the flower school. The forecast for the job of floral designer is low so the federal government wont sponsor the grant. So now I'm back to the age old question "What do I want to be when I grow up?" How the fuck should I know? Why not save me some time (and frustration) and just tell me what you will sponsor.

Not getting a big head. . .

I'm feeling very fortunate these days. People are saying very kind things about my (our) podcast. We (P.Ken) put out episode three last night. We are having a lot of fun doing them. Some folks with podcasts are giving us shout outs on their shows! Jersey Todd of the J.T. show and The guys from Puckertime both really like the show and have subscribed! It's nice to know that something you enjoy doing is also enjoyable and entertaining to others. Thanks P.Ken.

Good day, Good World

Things have been going on fast forward speed the last couple of weeks but most of it has been good and enjoyable. The podcast is going well, I'm in the show this weekend, I got to spend time with my D.B. , and the prospects of getting a job are looking up.

Last night I got to see Eisley in concert. About a year ago I saw them having won free tickets. I found out yesterday late morning that I won tickets to see them again! They played all the songs from Room Noises and several of the new songs off the album they are getting ready to record. I liked the new stuff a lot. It keeps their same vocal style but adds a harder rock flavor to it. Check them out if you get a chance. The gal I have the crush on doesn't add to the vocals but sings along without a mike. It is so cute.

P. Ken seems to do most of the work for the podcast so I have been trying to do what I can. I'm looking into logos (with help) and ideas for field trips. P. Ken may regret this . . . .

What do guys like about you? (from Brons blog)

Guys Like That You're Charming

You're the girl most guys can't get out of their heads
Even if they met you on a bad hair day :-)
You just seem to "click" with everyone you meet
So even if a guy forgets about you for a second... his friends haven't!

(one) Crisis Averted

A few days ago I took my current project out of my knitting bag and was horrified! At first glance it appeared that my project had come off the needles. Upon closer inspection it was even worse! The circular needle cord had broken off the needle! Now, the first thoughts in my head were not pretty but I knew that the company would take care of me. From the first time I saw the Denise Needle Kit I was excited and any dealings I've had with the company have been very positive. My main problem was I was in the midst of major busy add-on day!. This trauma happened Wednesday morning when I was stuck all day taking classes.

My day started out weird as it was, because I was out of coffee, having forgotten to pick it up the day before. I was really out of sorts and had to hit the ground running. I had job letters to write, podcast stuff to do, and the usual Mom duties. I took my knitting with me just in case I had time and needed to de-stress. I guess my knitting didn't help this day. In between classes I called Producer Ken and finally understood the information he was trying to convey to me in an e-mail he had sent me that morning. He needed me to get Deeg and get a photo ready to send into LibSyn. They were going to take the first twenty entries. I had to rush to an art store then home, make a sign, get dolled up, and do the LibSyn photo shoot before workshop! No problem (?)

The good news in all of this is I wrote the company Friday afternoon and they wrote back less than a day later to say "the cord is in the mail". Sweet. I did get my project back on another cord without dropping any stitches. That was a nice bonus.

Crazy times!

Things have been going at fast forward speed this week! Trying to find a job, taking required classes to (hopefully) qualify for re-training classes, being a mom, knitter, girlfriend, improv gal, podcast diva . . . . . I need a personal assistant. I'm still smiling.

Happy Sunday!

Producer and sidekick Ken got 'er done! Go listen and enjoy our first podcast!
It's all about Marta and Me

Not sure how often we will be posting them but keep checking. Ken will probably want recovery time from the edit on the first episode. I think he also needs time away from Marta and Marta's World.

Let us know what you think! itsallaboutmartaandme@gmail.com

Hum, really?

Last week has really given me reason for pause. I try to listen with an open mind to peoples thoughts and advice. I also try to rely on my instinct/ gut feel on things. One problem I have put my finger on is the fact that I have run out of coping skills. I don't feel I am doing a good job. It's one thing to identify an issue but it is another altogether to change it. Working on it.

One big goal I have is to find what I would be good at, would enjoy doing and can make a living at. After a free class I took today I have some ideas. The class was identify current job skills and see new jobs to apply these skills to. There is something that has floated through my head more than once but I didn't grab onto the idea until now. I will be looking into the career of florist. I have a creative background in many different textures so it makes sense. The Floral Institute is here in NW Portland. It's one of three campuses. The others are Seattle and Los Angeles. The cost of tuition would be a hurdle but I want to get information from many different areas to make an informed decision.

If anyone knows a florist that would be open to an information interview with me please let me know. Any information gathering ideas you have are also welcome. I wish PCC had classes because I would qualify for a three month grant. Still excited!

Alrighty then

It has been a bumpy ride of late, or should I say typical, in my world. For one I changed jobs from yuck to nothing. I decided I would rather spend the evening in the emergency room Friday then having a pasta dinner while watching the final wrestling matches before Wrestlemania on Sunday. I thought it would be great for my aging body to have my period come early so I could feel traumatized and out of sorts for the weekend. So how was your weekend?

I asked (on Monday) to have Wednesday afternoons off for six weeks starting in April because there is something I need to do. Their reply was to tell me in the evening on Thursday that Friday was my last day. Nice. They didn't have enough work for everyone so I got sent home at 11:41. That was probably a good idea cause I was not feeling appreciated on Employee Appreciation Day anyway. Since I was downtown I took care of a few things then came home and ate the lunch I had packed then took a nap. I felt better after that and set forth and to do errands in my hood. I was close to the end of my adventure when my phone rang.

I was in Trader Joes grabbing a few things and feeling generally pleased with myself despite the strange day I had so far. Wil called me to say DOS had just called to say Nick had broke his wrist and needed to go to the hospital. The emotions that went through me would have killed an empath. I put my basket down and exited the store. I had to walk home to get my car. It was just around six so I was hoping traffic wasn't too bad. I called Wil and had him grab a few things for me. Not a happy mommy right then.

Turns out that he didn't break his wrist again but his forearm. He completely severed one bone so it was askew and bent the other one. Think of a sapling tree if you try to snap a branch in two it just bends and fractures a bit. That is what he did to the second bone. It made it very difficult for the doc to re-set it. After a lot of manipulation and casting it he sent us back to x-ray. Good news is it was close, the bad news is it wasn't close enough. That's when they moved us from an exam room to an emergency room. I knew that wasn't a good sign. That change happened a bit after nine. For the squeamish I cut out the gory details but it was a re-set similar to last time. They finally got things done and between the massive amounts of drugs and trauma Nick was a blubbering mass of exhausted teen boy. They wouldn't let him go home til some of the drug haze had worn off. I think that was so I as a parent could really suffer the wrath of injured teen. We arrived home sometime around 12:30ish. I had called ahead and asked Wil and D.B. to make up the futon for our patient. For those who dont know Nick has a loft bed so ladder use was out of the question.

There were good spots and not for the rest of the weekend. Wil decided he would rather go to a friends house than deal with his brother. That actually made it a bit easier for us. We were able to have a some what kicked back time with nowhere to be. We watched some things on T.V. and a movie. As usual I fell asleep trying to watch TNA wrestling Saturday night. I don't think I even got to through the first match before I was out. (D.B.?)

We got the place cleaned up and ready for company Sunday. We were having people over for Wrestlemania! Folks were bringing pizza and beer while I was having soda and desert. A good time was had by all. Fun group and good matches made the afternoon fly by. I gave up Queer Knitting for Wrestlemania so I knit a bit while watching. I was glad but surprised they let Rey win! As for the pillow fight not one was used but Tory did make use of the bed.

So you are now (not really) caught up with my world. I got things to do so I will bid you happy Monday.
