My world rocks and rawks

I don't have the time to post anymore! With the kids needs, work hours, roller derby keeping the apartment standing and needing sleep there is no extra time. I think about posting a lot and always have plenty to say and share but it's not happening. I'm currently at work and allowed to use the internet in between calls so I put down my knitting to post! Enjoy this!

Kids

Currently giving me gray hairs and aging me rapidly. I think the days of being mistaken for 26 are gone. (but not forgotten) Being a single parent will be the toughest job I will ever do. The boys have been through a lot in the last 5+ years. I just need to hang on and do the best I can. It has affected my friendship, dating and job prospects. I need to do right by them so I sacrifice.

Nick played soccer this fall on a co-ed rec team. He had a lot of fun and was reminded that soccer is fun. He wants to play indoor on a classic team again! I hope I can swing the cash! He is a really good and natural athlete. I really enjoy watching him play.

Wil is happy to live with me and hang out with his computer nerd friends. They occasionally play D&D in a semi-darkened snack filled room for hours. He is a good kid but needs to move out of his procrastinating ways.

Work

I am currently on another temporary assignment at a catalog call center. It is seasonal position so come mid to late January I will be out in the cold. I really like the job for many reasons. It is in the Pearl district which is in my hood! The work environment is very nice, friendly and has natural light! That is almost unheard of in a call center. We have assigned desks we don't have to share so we can leave things in the desk and decorate. The folks I work with are very nice. It is such a great company to work for so nobody ever leaves! They hire so rarely and use temporary workers for the holidays. My supervisiors all love the work I do but unless one of them is willing to quit . . For now I am enjoying a 80% reimburse on a Trimet monthly pass, a set schedule and relaxed work environment. There is a holiday bazaar next week that I am going to put a few of my felted bags in and hopefully sell a few things to have some Christmas money.

Hobbies and stuff

I am still knitting away and enjoying it. I cant get into it as much as I would like as I cant afford the yarn! The act of knitting is very relaxing and satisfying. The things I am working on I am excited about finishing. After many starts and stops, frogging (un-knitting of ripping out) as much as knitting and endlessly going over and re-writing a flawed pattern I think I almost have the U neck vest done! I really like how it is turning out. I am also working on the cardigan sweater from the Stitch and Bitch book. It is a great pink color that I am going to get 40's black and white pin-up girl buttons and probably use a charcoal gray for the trim.

Roller Derby has turned into more of a hobby than I thought it would. I started out learning to be the penalty box ref but now am learning how to be a skating ref. I am now attending the two league practices a week as well as participating in the Fresh Meat practice! I will learn all skills that the RD gals do including scrimmaging. It has been a great experience and I am having a blast doing it.

Consider this my holiday update if I don't get another change to post soon. Happy Thanksgiving and whatever you do celebrate. Remember to enjoy the simple things and not get the "Holiday crazy."

Kisses,
