The life of Moo

I have been under more stress than I imagined. The injury from the car accident (and dealing with the insurance doofs), my (still painful) feet, trying to pay off Wil's school (so he can get going again) trying to get hired on permanent (while avoiding the mean girls) and dealing with what I hope is the end (not the middle) of the perimenopause has left me feeling not quite myself. This week alone has been doctors appointments everyday and work. I feel like I have not had any down time. I know they were all necessary and I want things to head up on the health of the Diva but it is wearing on me. I am really tired. Okay, enough whining. I hope to have some good news soon. . . .

I really enjoyed the opening of the "Robot Love" show last Friday. Carly's painting was the best by far. I was really pleased with how it came out but the other thing I really noticed is how professional her work is compared to other artists. She is an amazing artist. I hope she sends me a photo of "Reep" soon so I can share it. I love love LOVE "Reep" but we both agreed it does not really go with my other pieces. She assured me there will be more art and I don't need to buy everything. I will share.

First to open is the Robot Love show at the newest and itty-bittiest gallery in NoPo, Good. It's a group show in which I have a painting. Look for my standard fleshiness with a touch of disturbing technology, and, um, arachnid-ness. (That's just how it came out.) I'm excited to see the range of artists that the gallery and its owner, who's very cool and talented, btw, have attracted.

The gallery is located at 4325 N. Mississippi Ave. The show opens on the 6th -- that's this Friday -- with the reception running from about 7 to 10. (If you want to run into me, hang around till the end. I'll be swinging by after I get off work at 9.) If you miss the opening, normal gallery hours are Thursday 4-7 pm and Saturday noon-4pm.
Next up is the 4th Annual Love Show. It's still put together by the Launch Pad, but this year it's in conjunction with Chris Haberman/Portland City Art, and it's gonna be huge. So huge, in fact, that it's not going to be held at the Olympic Mills Building, just a few blocks away. See if you can find my piece among the work of 200+ artists. I'll give you a hint, it's a screen print.

The Olympic Mills Building is located at 107 SE Washington. (Careful: Google maps seems confused about which street is Washington.) The opening is the 13th, that's next Friday, from 7pm to midnight. Plus, it's doubling as a charity event: bring some canned goods or buy a piece of art and help out the Food Bank and Buckman Elementary.
Normal hours for the show are tentatively Monday through Friday, 8am to 6pm, and "some" Saturday hours. See the show's website, www.launchpadgallery.org/loveshow4, for specifics.
And last but not least, my very own solo show at Seven Virtues. I'm calling it "Wet Paint" because it's all new work. So new that it's not even done yet! (No, really...) Paintings small and large and a handful of limited edition screen prints guarantee a variety of price points.


Seven Virtues is located at 5936 NE Glisan, right on the corner. The show will be up by Monday the 16th, but the reception will be on the 19th (that's a Thursday) from 6-8ish in the evening. Come have some coffee and chat with me!

The YoLM rolls on

I had a meeting with my tax man on Friday. He is a business man with a sense of humor. I have gone to him for 6 years now to do my taxes and get my poor ass some money back! He has come through every year. After reviewing this years numbers and changes he surprised me by telling me in a how proud he is of me. It was nice really to hear. After all he knows what I make. He said I would not get as much back this year but I should be okay with that - I am! I compared the six month Ikea W-2 to my hospital of same . . . . wow.

The Speed of Moo

My life has been going by at the speed of sound of late. I have not been doing too much other than work, therapy and living. It is crazy.

In January my mom's half sister came for a visit. We were meeting her for the first time. My mom had a very difficult childhood. Anyway, I have eight Aunties and Uncles, thirty three cousins and who knows what else! Auntie She She (Sheila) came up for four days. I really like her. We are in contact trying to get the family together. More later on this.
