Time to bid 2004 adieu

I'm not one to made New Years resolutions but rather try to do the things I think I should all along. I'm not elitist in this. I just figure why wait till the first of the year when I can do it now? Okay this is the first of the year but if it was August it would be different. :) You know what I mean.

It has been an action packed year in Marta's World. Some not so good but some down right awesome. As I always say why dwell on the bad since it wont change it. Lets look at the good!

~ I'm dating an awesome Man. He accepts Me for who I am. He likes that I'm quirky and open. That is a gift in this world.

~ My kids love Me

~ I have a wonderful family in CSz. I also have the love an support of my ex's family. That means a lot to Me.

~ Despite some of the tragic events in My World I think it's a wonderful life and I'm damn lucky for the things I do have.

I would like to thank all the folks that have helped Me and My Boys this year. Your support is appreciated. I am fortunate.

I hope to have a better handle on My life in 2005. Only I can change that so I better get moving! (literally!) After all I'm Still Standing.

Happy New Years to all and to all a good life.

Best cupboard dinner EVER!

Yes, this is how simple I am! I'm going to tell you about the awesome cupboard dinner I whipped up. I put it together in my head as I was driving home from my productive day.
I was headed home after my last errand thinking I deserved a good meal after getting so much done. It was 4:30ish and I was hungry even though I had a good lunch. I wanted food. Now as most of you singles know cooking for one isn't fun. I was running through my head the possibilities of a meal. Suddenly the planets aligned and the light bulb went on! I had forgotten for awhile about a box of can goods I had in the basement. (no room in my shelf area) I found it last week looking for for something else. I had a jar of Alfredo sauce, Canned salmon, minced clams, mushrooms and olives. I added white wine and pepper then simmered. Boiled me up some noodles and WOW! Now that's what I'm talking about!
I knew once I ate that I was home for the night. (sorry Betse) I had a glass of wine with it and ate while watching Van Helsing. A great ending to a productive day!

Good Wednesday 4 Me

Yesterday started out rocky but quickly turned into a productive day. I wont bore you with every detail since I want you to come back. Here are some highlights.

~ In looking up recipe's for the new crock pot I found 4 sites with over 400 recipe's!

~ Went to the Fabric Depot to see what was on sale. Yarn at 30 percent off! I walked out of there (after paying) with just the #7 double pointed needles I needed.

~ All the laundry is done!

~ I started a site that will be about my knitting. Not that I wont post about it here but it is to showcase my work. My boys think my stuff is good and want me to sell it.

I multi-tasked at workshop last night and had FUN! Thanks for the awesome workshop Betse! It was pretty funny, as Betse was telling us to circle up we were comparing scarves made. (Karen, Betse and I) They had just looked at Laurie's purse that was almost done. Ken and I were talking while I worked on it. (Ken came to the last CPP. His hobby is reading computer geek from work.) He was telling others that asked questions the answers using the right terms. (We are so getting him to knit Karen!) Anyway, as we joined the circle we were still yaking away now basically to the group about knitting. Betse then started clapping and said "Welcome to the knitting workshop!" It was funny.

The workshop was gibberish and emotion. It was a fun workshop from beginning to end. Everybody just DID and kept going even when it felt odd. We all did a great job and had a blast doing it. I felt I had some good work done and was proud of myself to take the hardest position the first time. We all laughed A LOT! I had tears streaming down my face.

Throughout the workshop I continued binding off Laurie's purse. I got it done with time to spare! I indulged myself in working on my scarf! Not only was I funny at workshop I was crafty too.

I have really enjoyed The Creative Persons Project.(CPP) I don't want to call it a Stitch and Bitch since there are people doing other hobbies there. It's nice to sit and chat about our lives outside of Comedy Sportz. Sure we talk about CSz too but it's just different. It's nice for the Deep Dish folks since we play better the more we know each other.

I've only been able to make a couple of The Queer Knitting but really enjoyed the gals I met there. Sharon started the group and seems to have the most knitting knowledge. Danielle has a great sense of humor and out knits me by a stretch. I wish she could come to CPP cause she would fit right in! Sharon too for that matter! I have invited both but Danielle works nights and Sharon is busy.

Speaking of busy I have lots to do today. Laurie's purse to felt, Post office , Target, Library, mail to go through, knitting to start, people to call and e-mail and Thursday Academy to attend. (long form with Betse)

I had a great holiday and I hope all of you did too. Don't beat yourself up as the New Year approaches but make permanent changes for your better. Kiss!

Happy Christmas Eve!

Happy Merry Peace to all Posted by Hello

Happy Merries to all and to all a great night!

Last night I woke up at 3:40 am. I'm not really sure why but felt the need to get up and check everything. I looked out the living room window and was treated to fog. It was really pretty to see. It actually made me smile. Ah, San Francisco I do miss you.

I heated up some milk with a bit of vanilla in for flavor. While I waited for that I thought if all I had to do today was festering in my brain if I wrote it out that would relax me. That didn't take too long and soon I was sitting at the couch sipping my milk and enjoying the fog. When I finished I was able to go right back to sleep.

It still seems strange to me to be the one to spend the holidays with my ex's family. I know how it feels to be the one shunned and orphaned. I guess the difference is I did nothing wrong for my family to make that choice. His family chooses to include me. I'm glad cause they all are very special to me. That is where the boys and I will be tonight.

Tomorrow I have to have them to their Dad's by 10am. We will get up and have our Christmas then pack up the car. I'm glad I got to spend this time with them.

This Christmas seems to be better than last year. It was hard to find my way last year. Even with all that's going on this year I'm doing okay. Part of it is I'm a stronger person. I don't have all the answers but I trust myself and believe I can "do " whatever I have to to take care of me.

I probably wont be on the computer for a couple days but just want to say I hope you find joy in your heart and enjoy the holidays. Peace

Calling all the Mistress' of yarn

Hi all,
wanted to pass on a note from the Lint news letter if anyone wants to participate.

Magic Mittens and Mufflers for Mongolian Children.

Can you imagine living somewhere that the average winter temperature is -13F and heat may or may not be available? Now imagine you are a child that has been abandoned by your parents without food, money or resources. Imagine living on the streets in subzero temperatures or amidst the maze of dark sewers and heating pipes that bring hot water to the city, where it is just a little warmer.

Unfortunately, this scenario is not uncommon in the capital of Mongolia, Ulaan Baatar.

We are gathering hand knit (or crocheted) mittens, gloves and scarves (mufflers) from around the world to send to The Lotus Children's Centre. The centre was established to provide housing, food, education and basic resources to abandoned children in Ulaan Baatar.

You can send your magic mittens, mufflers and gloves to:

Sue Anderson

2445 N.W. Westover Rd. 3501

Portland Or, 97221

We handle shipping and distribution. For more info e-mail at

sue.unkelaw@verizon.net

I would like this a step further. If you aren't "crafty" but would like to help e-mail me and you can pay for materials and I will enlist the help of the Creative Persons Project to do the work. After Christmas sales on yarn are awesome. I know fabric Depot is having a 35 percent off yarns the week after Christmas.

Rawk on people.

Insurance guy? Posted by Hello

Embrace the good

Gotta take the good that comes along and embrace it. Yeah, bad things have crashed into Marta's World. I'm hoping I'm dealing a bit better today.

Wil and I slept in today. No roommates or their dogs to disturb us so it was after 10 this morning before I rolled over. I guess I needed it.

After waiting all day yesterday to get a rental car I got picked up at 4:45. By the time we got back to the agency and finished paperwork it was 5:42. (I'm glad I took a knitting project because I got a lot done.) That's when I was told I had to pay $10.99 a day for insurance. I was not happy and figured I wasn't gonna have a car now. I cant afford $10.99 a day! I only have liability on My car so if I had any accident in a rental I would not be covered. Since it was past business hours we put it on my card last night and I was on my way. I figured the "bad man's" insurance would not cover it but I would ask in the morning.

I made the most of the car last night. I did errands, Christmas shopping and picked up some food. I did my errands as if I wouldn't have a car today. It made me feel better to focus and finish.

I heard back from the rental company that they are covering the rental and insurance to the 31st. Now I know I have wheels for the holidays. I can also go car shopping *gag* in style.

I gotta tell you that the idea of car shopping strikes fear and tears. I'll just leave it at that.

Kisses to all

Blogger problems

Blogger is having problems in the editing/publishing areas. I'm sorry if you cant read my blog. They say it's being fixed.

Merry Holidays and super New Year.

A picture can confuse anyone?

Crazy birdies! They hung on the side of a building. Posted by Hello

Well, I'm still standing. . .

When it rains it pours. Not that anytime is a good time for something like this but Christmas time? I'm frustrated at people and the games they play. Everyone is giving me conflicting information and the run around. What I'm hearing is I wont get my car back. I will suffer loss and have to go used car shopping for an inferior car. It's not fair and I am feeling so many things right now. Anger, frustration, self pity to name a few.

I feel I'm not handling this very well. I'm trying to keep moving but the small child in me is begging to climb into bed and stay there. I cant and wont.

The internet was down since last night but after a few calls to Comcast we got the modem re-set. They were trying to tell me the modem was defective but I didn't buy that. Wil called the guy back one more time and asked them to test the router and modem. Suddenly it all worked again. That's good because I'm supposed to be researching my car's value as well as trying to replace it.

I am supposed to get a rental car today but all the cars are out? Someone throw me a frickin' bone here! At least by tomorrow I will get some wheels. I have so much to do and hate asking people to drive me. Now that I live so far out it is a lot to ask of people.

On the brighter side after getting way behind in my knitting I have been knitting while talking to people or while waiting for the internet to find things. I wont have things done for Christmas as I wanted to but I'm still working. I'm on row 18 out of 64 in a purse for someone. I finished the Lady bug purse but I need to sew it together and felt it. The one I'm on row 18 also nees felted. The good news on that is the handle is done and it's knit from the bottom up so minimal sewing.

Instead of telling you my woes why don't I go knit and work at this car thing. I don't want to feel like a victim or act like one. Since typing all this I am feeling a bit better and letting go of the bad. Lunch, shower, knit and DO!

Hope all of you are enjoying your holidays however you celebrate them. Be good to those you love and charitable to those less fortunate. I have a couple bags of items for a women's shelter and some canned goods for the Oregon Food Bank. I hope they help someone.

Trying My best

I'm having a hard time since the accident but trying to remain positive. It's a hit to my world that is upsetting me greatly. My car was all up to date and good for a few years to come. Now my car is most likely totaled. I just want to burst into tears at the thought of used car shopping. I wont get what my car is worth and have to settle for something not as nice as what I had. I have no other money to throw at it and my experience with used cars is you always have to throw another $200 to $1000 at anything you buy. Sorry to sound negative in this post but I have yet to hear the good news in all of this. Here, I'll say some myself.

Nick and I are stiff and sore but okay.

The guy has insurance through his company.

I got it home before it acted funny.

That's what I got for now. I'll be back to my usual next time. I have been through worse this year so why is it bugging me so much?

Merry Holidays to all.

Bad things happen to nice people

Last night one persons bad judgment impacted several others lives. I was one of 7 people hit by a drunk driver. He hit one car knocking it into another and fled that scene. A few minutes later he crashed into me blowing me into another car. He fled our accident too but thankfully the police were on his trail. We were all stopped or stopping in traffic on the freeway so he wasn't able to get far and was pulled over about a half mile up the road. One officer stayed in our area taking everyone's information while his partner got ahead of the suspect on surface streets then hit the freeway and cut him off. I didn't even see him as he came out of nowhere and hit me with such force it blew my back window out as well as my radio out of the dash board. I had Nick with me trying to get him to his soccer game.

When the officer was almost done with me and the woman I was pushed into his partner radioed him to say he had the suspect and wanted to know if we could ID him. Officer Hoesly inspected my car and found green paint embedded into my silver car. The man in question was driving a green pickup with a big bash or two. They told me I could go but I insisted on taking my car up to his truck so they could do a side by side comparison. Officer Hoesly had me follow him up and park in front of the pickup. It was definitely a match. He was arrested for two counts of hit and run, reckless driving, driving under the influence and several other things.

When we have a trauma in our lives we instantly try to protect our loved ones, worry about our possessions and how they are damaged and generally fretting on how we are going to fix what has happened to us. I was certainly in that mode with my son and my car. I don't have full coverage on my car so I was feeling panic at loss of my car.

While I was sitting in my car waiting for the police to finish with pictures and questions I looked in my rear view mirror and saw a teenage boy sitting in the passenger seat of the pickup. Suddenly all my problems seemed less in comparison to a young man having witnessed all he had. As he watched his dad get handcuffed and put in the back of the police car my heart hurt for him. I wanted to go to him and tell him it would be okay. Would it though? Nick sombered up from his anger and trying to protect his mom when we saw the boy.

Yeah, I'm inconvenienced by the loss of my car and living out as far as I do. It may not be straightened out for a long time but I'm okay and so is Nick.

It's been a hell of a year in Marta's World but I'm still standing.

Marie Holly Combs plays Piper on Charmed. Posted by Hello

Okay, I guess I do.

I feel I'm a very open person. I like all kinds of music from classical to punk. I don't have a favorite color but enjoy some more than others. I like to read almost anything especially if I'm in the mood to read. I used to think I was attracted to a person for what they have to offer liking everything. It was pointed out to me recently by my boyfriend that I seemed to like a certain type. Now I gotta say I fought that idea wanting to keep the open that I'm so fond of. I stopped fighting it today when I saw a picture of Holly Marie Combs and a few pictures later was Charisma Carpenter. I waited to see what was next in the slide show on my computer. Joseph followed by Jennifer, David B., (Angel) Bron, David D. (X- files). . . You get the picture. Okay, I like brunettes. Big liking of the red heads (Bron is there too) but the dark = hot in my (open) book. Enjoy the photos.

Here is Deep Dish! ( L2R) Tom, Cindy, Karen, John, Deanna, Myself and DJ (a.k.a. Deeg) Great photo Wil. Posted by Hello

Much excitement!

I'm excited to say the return of Deep Dish seems to finally be here! Deep Dish is a long form group (of very busy people) I belong to. We performed over a year ago and have been trying to get together ever since but one or two are always unavailable. The core of us decided we will return! We have lost one to semi-retirement (we want you Cindy), Tom got married, moved, found out Kat is pregnant and moved again. I don't remember the last time I saw him at the arena. We asked Ken Wells to join our group (I think he said yes or Karen and I just bullied him) since he seems to be on the same wave as the rest. That leaves John Mechalas, DJ, Karen and Myself.

The great thing about our group is we all share the focus, move quickly thinking alike and we play. What I mean by that is it's fun and playful the way we work together. We all have fun and the excitement of playing well (when it's clicking) together is awesome!

We miss our coach who moved to the windy city. Deanna, we are (almost) back! We will send you a tape if you cant make it.

I will update you when there is more news. Merry Christmas Deep Dish!

So here we are at Karaoke. Adam took this pic with my phone. It was too dark but I altered it a bit for my amusement. Posted by Hello

So much to say

I have so much I want to say, stories to finish, things I find amusing I want to share but I have lots going on! I have so little time right now so instead of telling all the reasons I cant why don't I get on with it!

I have been away for a week with no access to a working computer. I did miss writing here but had so much fun and enjoyment in my time away. I knitted (duh!), enjoyed cable, saw live performances and a movie, did some Christmas shopping and savored the simple things and time with someone special.

The best was enjoying my time with my boyfriend. We can just hang at his place and I'm smiling just being. He is a good man and treats me wonderfully. He respects me and my interests outside his own. He encourages and accepts me to be the Marta I am not trying to change me or smother me. We are a couple but we are the individuals that attracted one to the other. I'm not sure if this makes sense to you but it feels fantastic to me.

He is an enabler in my knitting (BIG bonus!) and encourages me in taking my knitting places. Not only do I get to visit or enjoy PW but I get a lot done. I am currently under the gun for Christmas presents so I take my knitting most places. I have gotten some weird looks but it is part of Me again and I savor it.(not the looks, the knitting!) I can multi task in life. For the most part I don't have to stare at my work so I can be at Karaoke or PW and enjoy all. What (and why) I'm saying this is I don't want people to be put off thinking I'm ignoring anyone. If you are lucky someday I will make something for you. By the way ladies knitting is a guy magnet. Lucky for me a chick magnet too! It is good in Marta's World.

For now I will leave you with these announcements.

~I'm in the CSz show this Sunday at 7pm if you want to come see me play. Deeg (my gurlfriend) is playing too. I have my boys for Christmas vacation so they will be there as well as some mystery guests.

~The Creative Persons Project meets again on Monday Dec. 20th if you have a portable hobby come on down.

~Heather from Texas is coming in January for a long weekend. She is playing CSz Friday night. I hope to show her many sights while she is here. She is staying with me (right?) but hope to have a old fashioned girlie slumber party one night.

okay, so that's it for now. I will add a pic or two but must get my tush moving!

Enjoy!

This was our Christmas Tree last year. I really had no room for a big tree in my double studio with two boys and a crazed dog. (Uma) A potted blue spruce that was on sale. We picked it together and went home and drank hot chocolate and decorated the apt. listening to Christmas music.  Posted by Hello

Holiday traditions

I have always enjoyed the holidays. In the last couple years I've been trying to find new traditions for myself and including the boys. It's been interesting trying new things and deciding if I/we want to try 'whatever' again. My exes family invites me and the boys to holidays and I enjoy that. At the same time a part of me is saddened that they will never be my family especially since mine is "gone" to me. Strangely I'm okay with that most of the year.

To me the holidays is about love, laughter, sharing, traditions and giving unselfishly. I'm not talking consumerism. I miss the kind of holidays Jer talked about in her blog before Thanksgiving. Belonging somewhere. That's it! I'm newly orphaned and still trying to find how I fit somewhere. Wow, I just had that revelation as I typed it. I'm a people person and while I cherish my Me time I like to belong.

Okay, now that I got that figured out I need to come up with traditions I can count on (and look forward to) not just who I'm with any given holiday. Not easy to type much less do!

I gotta let this set as I go about my day. I find if I don't think about something actively some part of my brain is working on it and will spit ideas to the front randomly. No worries. Enjoy this season and cherish the moment.

Calling all Thick headed People!

I don't understand people sometimes. Why play games and have misunderstandings? If you misrepresent yourself - hide behind an illusion eventually you will be exposed. What is she babbling on about? My ex and people from my past that no longer have "a shot" for multiple reasons. They just dont seem to get it.

I'm not being harsh but if things were said it was for a reason. I wasn't being coy or trying to make anyone jealous. I'm happy with myself and the people I choose to hang with. Please respect my feelings and move on. We cant be friends, IM buddies, meet for coffee, and I wont vouch for you to anyone. Please stop trying to contact me for any reason.

I'm sorry to those readers this doesn't apply. You can have your own post later today. It will be funfilled I'm sure. I guess once you have been smitten by a redhead you are forever changed.

Here I am at Mable's for The Creative Persons Project. Note that I'm wearing the Funny Bunny shirt Heather (and Evan?) made. I got asked by three people where I got my shirt because they wanted one! Thank you Heather! (and EVAN!) Posted by Hello

Not obsessed just enjoying

My boys are sure I've gone round the bend of late. They say I'm obsessed with Knitting, taking pictures of my projects then putting pictures on my blog. Okay I'm really into knitting again. I love the feeling of accomplishment when I finish a project and it's so cool! It keeps me buzy and off the streets! It also takes my brain to a simple place so that the clutter that's hard to get away from is elsewhere.

As for my blog I have always enjoyed the outlet and still do. Now that I finally know how to post pics I'm sure I've gone a bit crazy but so what. If you don't like it or it bores you that's cool. I write and post pics for me to share me. This is Marta's world.

Tonight is the first meeting of The Creative Persons Project. I'm looking forward to sitting with folks and knitting. I'm excited to see what people are making. I will fill you in later. For now I'm off to the yarn store to try to get ideas on how to use some yarn I already own but don't like the project it was intended for. Adios!

Just finished felting this! It is so cute! It's about 8" wide and 6" tall not including handles. So easy and fun to do. A great feeling when a project is fun to do AND turns out better than you hoped! Posted by Hello

I woke with a smile in comfort

I know Thanksgiving is over but I think you should take stock of your world everyday and be happy for what is good. I see no need to dwell in the negative but you need to work through it, fix it and move on. With that said I will whiz through the list of happy thoughts that I had of as I woke up this morning. (not in any order - just as I type `em. )

~ Yummy flannel sheets. They are cute snow people that match my comforter cover AND were on sale!

~ Gonna see my guy soon!

~ having my boys this weekend. Always having their love.

~ Knitting and having fun doing it. Being able to make cool things for people.

~ A place to live.

~ Being my quirky self and you all enjoy me and my enthusiasm.

~ posting pictures here! (BTW most of the pics you see here I took)

Today brings a smattering of things to do. Felt the first project (ladybug purse) and complete knitting the second bag and hopefully felting it tomorrow. (yes, I will be taking pics)

I hope to do the gauge ( knit a small swatch with the yarn and stated size needles. Then you measure to see if you have the required number of stitches. You may need to go up or down a size of needle to achieve the pattern depending how you knit) for the boys socks before Sunday night. The Fabric Depot is having a 30 0/0 off sale this weekend on yarn and notions. I got the yarn for both boys socks, a skein of eyelash for another purse that goes with yarn I already have and some apple mentos for less than $15.00. I have the circular needles but I will need a set of double pointed needles (dpn) for the toe and heel. I have one set of 11 (that's big) and a set of 2. The pattern calls for 3's but with a gauge it will determine what size. I tend to knit tight but am working on not.

Tonight we are going to have movie nite since the boys did stuff with their friends last night. Nick went to the middle school dance and Wil went paint balling. I look forward to knitting, snuggling and laughing.

Sunday I am giving PNPW another try. Also it's a benefit for Dornbeckers Childrens Hospital. All the proceeds go to the hospital. If you bring a new unwrapped toy to the match you get $2. Off addmission. I figure it's a win win situation. If you want more info or want to donate contact me and I will help you out.

Loving being in my world.
