Oh Rocky!

I have had a rocky start to this year. Work hours are up in the air (and disappearing), my rent (both the parking spot and apartment) has gone up, my body is going through hell, dealing with the law suit and I can't find anyone to love. Now any one of these or a combination of these might have the average person hiding under the covers but we all know I am no average person. I am Diva hear me roar!

I am looking for work. The problem is there is not much out there and most hospitals are in a hiring freeze (sound familiar?). I am ready to start making a career change. Pharmacy is very cut and dry. No room for being creative or even funny. I am out numbered being a liberal Democrat, creative and bi-sexual. It was supposed to be this great change in my life that would set me up for the rest of my life. huh?

I know I started this career just before the economy went into the toilet but it is more than that. For now hospitals are using the excuse that because of the Health care Reform they are losing money hand-over-fist and having to do more "Charity Care" for the community blah blah blah. That means all of us schmucks without health care and cash are sucking up the profits. They solve it by cutting jobs of FTE (full time employees) and laying off others. I am tired of trying so hard to please my employer and fellow employees constantly especially with no hope of getting hired. It is like a perpetual job interview since I am on call. I want to stop trying to get somewhere! I made a drastic change to my life almost 12 years ago and have been trying to recreate my life ever since. I did the right thing but it has been a long haul. To be completely honest I have gotten side tracked by relationships, and trying "to do right" by my boys. It is time to be a selfish Diva and focus on my future. I am a sexy independent gal that deserves a permanent future so I will give to myself.

Like Mother like Son

Wil and I walked down today to take the Census 2010 test to become Census takers. I did it the last Census but had not really considered it until I got my work schedule for April. I went to the site and was surprised to find they pay $15.25 an hour! I thought the test would be easy and for the most part it was. You only have 30 minutes to complete a government worded test. There were people there that have taken the test multiple times and had not passed!? (a Masters in English) You had to get 70% or more. I finished my test as she said "time". Wil waited the 20 minutes for our test results while I walked to the store. We both passed and both had the score 93%. stay tuned . . . .

102 days and counting . . . .

I am still sick and so it seems like it has been forever. I felt I was on my way to getting better yesterday but by the end of my day I had a sore throat. I woke up today with the same scratchy sore throat and back to feeling crappy. I cant miss anymore work! I hate being sick especially this time of year! I missed too many days, my house is a mess, I need to do my laundry, I have not decorated for Christmas and I'm a whiny mess feeling sorry for myself. I suck.

I'm am really worried about what life will be like once the seasonal job goes away. It has not been as busy as they thought so I may not even work after the New Year. Even though I was sick and got up late today (having worked both jobs yesterday) I looked for jobs to apply for. There were a few I applied for but I'm not holding my breath. I may have to do something drastic like get a retail pharmacy position. For those that don't know that is the lowest of the low. That is why I was so pleased and proud of myself for nailing a hospital job fresh out of school. It saddens me to do the retail but it is better than being homeless. I can revisit hospital positions later when the economy is better. I can still stay on-call but work way less at the hospital. It was my intention to look all along but with two jobs and double backs I had my hands full. Time is ticking.

I am trying to turn my mood around. I'm at work this evening and back at the call center tomorrow morning but then I'm going to try to get the place cleaned up and decorated in the next few days. I did vaccum a couple of days ago and some dusting because all I could smell was dust. It was pretty bad. I need to take control of my world instead of "it" kicking my ass.

Walking on Sunshine

Things are going very well for me. It seems like an odd statement to make since I'm stressing about money/jobs/hours but it is true. My bosses at the second job are fabulous and very understanding. They are glad to give me any hours they can that I can take. I even asked if I could get off 1 1/2 hours early so I could take a shift at the hospital. They were glad to help me and made the change right then! At times I am going on less sleep than I would like but I'm doing well. I bike when I can and am uber organized as far as laying out clothes and making coffee ahead and lunches. That is probably one of the reasons I feel good about things. I am smiling and taking any extra hours I can. I want to try to save up some once I catch up so I can ride the less hours wave after the holidays. The second job will probably end by the second week in the new year. I'm still looking for a Pharm Tech permanent job every few days. I may have to switch to retail as much as I don't want to. It would be hard since they tend to pay less per hour but a permanent job with bene's - priceless.
